This is the basic wig I use for most of my dolls. I use the Tibetian Lamb that is still on the skin (See Supplies). I love the texture and the soft curl of this fur for dolls.
Here is how I do it:
- Measure your dolls head from the center of the back of the nape of the neck all around the hairline.
- This is the length of the large piece you will cut(see illustration). Don't chop into the hair but rather slip the sharp edges of your scissors close to the skin and snip. this will keep you from cutting off the hair. Cut a small square as shown.
- Brush the edges of the 2 pieces removing all the loose hair with a hair brush.
- Turn both pieces skin side up and glue along the top edge of the big piece and right in the middle at the bottom, as shown, using tacky glue.
- Turn back a generous 1/4" all along the top edge to create a hairline. Lay the small piece at the bottom where it is glued.
- Pull the wig around the dolls head so the long pieces meet in the back at the nape of the neck. If they overlap cut them to fit exactly.
- Now that you have done the first fitting-cut away the excess as shown by shaded area. This will reduce the bulk.
- Glue the head of your doll using tacky glue. Pull the long ends to the back at the nape of the neck and glue down. Glue the flap (the little piece) and press it down. Hold the head in your hands forming the wig to fit her head.
- Style as desired.
